Weevils

Our runner beans have been desperately in need of planting out and have grown quite tall already. Saturday was their lucky day and they were moved to the plot. Three varieties - Enorma, Lady Di and Painted Lady - were planted each up their own teepee. I just hope they don't get too much of a shock as it is quite cold for June.

I also hope that, if they survive the un-June-like conditions, they don't fall foul to the dastardly pea and bean weevils. Each year these little devils make a beeline for our broad bean and pea plants.

Usually despite their nibbling frenzy they don't cause too much of a problem as the growing plants manage to out grow them.  This year though they seem to be far more voracious and were on the attack earlier than usual. Another problem is that the plants are growing much slower this year so they may decide that the weevils are the last straw!

The broad beans although still small are beginning to flower - just hope those  little devils don't put paid to our chances of a broad bean and pea harvest.

In keeping with the garden flower theme, the album featured below has photos of flowers all taken at some time in our garden or on our allotment plot.

All you have to do is to identify as many of the twenty flowers as you can. You don't need to know the name of the variety or the botanical name just the name by which each plant is commonly known for example dahlia, snapdragon etc.

In the event that no-one manages to correctly identify all the flowers the winner will be the one who manages to correct;ly identify the largest number. If more than one person identifies the same number of flowers then as usual the name of the winner will be drawn from the virtual hat! So you may be a winner even if you don't recognise all twenty flowers.
