    1. I think you have a bird with the same name - goldfinch - but it looks very different, Sue. The Victorians kept them as pets. I much prefer to see them flying wild.

    1. I've been trying to decide whether it is a Thomas or Thomasina, Deborah. Apparently even experts find differentiating a he from she to be tricky and some differences can only be observed by capturing them. If the red wasn't as bright I think I would lean towards a she.

  6. They are always very cautious coming down to the feeders, just like the one in your photo, hopping down through the trees and bushes.
