Maybe a bit of a cheat as we harvested this on Friday but I thought I'd join in this week and describe what we are harvesting at the moment.
The cabbages are supposed to keep well in a cold frost free place so we hope that they will keep well in the garage. We could have left them at the plot but hopefully they will keep us supplied if the weather stops us from visiting the plot.
There are beetroots sheltering under straw too but we didn't pick any of those.
Harvest Monday is hosted by Daphnes' Dandelions here.
The only thing we're harvesting is parsnips. Yours look great.
ReplyDeleteThey are surprisingly shapely. Jo
DeleteBeautiful crop. I wish I could grow such beautiful cabbages!
ReplyDeleteThe reds haven't done as well as the green cabbages, Alain. But some of the greens are monsters
ReplyDeleteI don't think showing what you harvested on Friday is cheating. Surely the idea of Harvest Monday is to display anything you have harvested in the preceding week? That's certainly how I interpret it. And yours is a fine harvest by any measure!
ReplyDeleteGood! Glad I don't qualify as a cheat, Mark
DeleteI agree with Mark, I don't believe it is cheating at all. It took me and my garden a week to come up with just handfuls to take pics and post. lol What beautiful cabbages you have there!!
ReplyDeleteThe cabbages have done well Karrie - thanks for visiting and commenting I go over and see your photos soon.
DeleteOh wow!! What a great harvest, and mid december!!! All I have left is spinach and chillies.xxx
ReplyDeleteWe're hoping to have still things to harvest through winter, Snowbird
DeleteWhat a fantastic harvest. Those cabbages look wonderful. I do love cabbage, but what with the slugs, the caterpillars and the pigeons, I haven't been brave enough to try any yet. Great leeks too. I had a couple of small ones from the garden today. Small but tasty. Hope you both have a good week Sue.
ReplyDeleteWe use insect netting CJ and leave the brassicas covered. It keeps off the pigeons and all but one or two resourceful butterflies that somehow cabbage to find a way in. We do get some slug damage but not too bad,
DeleteThat's handful of harvest! Nice round shape cabbage! I harvested 2 head of cabbages too last weekend! But not so big like your! ;)
ReplyDeleteThey are various sizes Malar but all are fairly large.
DeleteI love your cabbages. Look so perfect. Especially your red variety
ReplyDeleteI like red cabbage too, Endah but they haven't grown as well as the green ones this year.
Deletegood haul Sue - what a good veg grower you are
ReplyDeleteIt's a joint enterprise Elaine but even them you should see the state of our winter brassicas. We need a club root resistant broccoli!
DeleteThat's a seriously good harvest Sue. I still have stuff to harvest and I am hoping that this weekend sees me feeling refreshed enough to get down the allotment for an hour or so!!
ReplyDeleteHope you make it at the weekend Tanya
