Recently I was entered into a prize draw by Carrie the author of Grow Our Own. The draw was to celebrate Carrie and husband Andrew's allotment's fourth birthday. All I had to do was to make a comment on one of Carrie's posts which I am happy to do regularly anyway and would have done so even without the chance of winning a prize.
Anyway as you will have guessed from the title of the post I was lucky enough to be first out of the hat and therefore the lucky recipient of the secret prize and the resulting excitement of unwrapping the mystery package that arrived on Wednesday.
This is what Carrie sent me:
The book Tips from the Old Gardeners - this is all about garden folklore and the scientific truth behind many of the 'Old Wive's Tales' passed down over the centuries by our gardening ancestors. (I'll enjoy curling up and having a good read of that - just right for the awful wet days we have been suffering).
Carrie is also a skilled photographer and she included three of her photographs in the package. Two are in the form of cards which I have no intention of sending to anyone and the third is a large postcard of the view of the castle at Carrickfergus where Carrie lives (Carrickfergus that is and not the castle!).
Thank you Carrie for a lovely gift!
PS - For some reason Google Chrome has decided it doesn't like my computer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 'til I'm blue in the face, I've emptied caches, I've run various utilities, all to no avail. Google Chrome refuses to co-operate. It won't even open! This has forced me to use Internet Explorer to create my blog and view others. Very unstaisfactory - I hope you aren't getting the sorrt of weird looking pages on my blog that I am getting when using IE to view some of the ones that I visit!
Lovely gifts, how generous of Carrie.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried Chrome but sympathise with you having to go back to IE. I've tried Safari on the Mac but keep going back to Firefox.
It was generous BW.
DeleteCo-incidentally I was just thinking that I would use FireFox instead of IE - no idea at all why Chrome has decided to play up!
Sue, I've used Firefox for years and find it is very stable on both M/soft and Mac operating systems.
DeleteCongratulations on the win, a lovely prize. I think it's always exciting to receive a parcel through the post.
ReplyDeleteIt is exciting Jo
DeleteLovely photos and Congratulations to you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cathy
DeleteIsn't it nice to get such a pleasant surprise from time to time?
ReplyDeleteThe world of Browsers is a very complicated one, and variable too. Just when you think everything is working OK, they go and change it. I'm not allowed to load new browsers (I use a laptop provided by my company), so I'm still with IE 8. I can comment on some blogs, but not others, and the symptoms of being "unable" to comment come in several variants. Fortunately I have had no formatting problems (so far).
I tried Firefox and it cam up with Blogger doesn't support FireFox any longer so some featrues may not work. As for IE when I use the scroll button on my mouse it often stretches and contract the screen rather than scrolling! As for Chrome it just says Whoa something is wrong and shuts down as soon as I load it!!
ReplyDeleteSue, I am starting to wonder if you've got a more fundamental problem on your PC. I am using Firefox on the Mac and on a laptop under Windows 7. The only issue I have is that sometimes I cannot make comments from the laptop.
DeleteI am sure Google would love to restrict their products to only work on their own browser but somehow, with the size of the Microsoft/Windows installed base, I don't think even Google can pull that off right now ....
As Mark rightly said, it's a complicated world these days :{
I think you could be right BW - in fact I am thinking about updating my computer but the thought of having to transfer everything puts me off. I've run any repairs, defragged, done registry clean-ups etc. I can't do a system restore as ages ago the computer stopped creating restore points! I didn't get an issue with FireFox just the warning message that Blogger no longer supported FireFox (by the way my typing above was appalling - sorry for that)!
DeleteHave you thought about just doing an OS re-install (AFTER you have backed up ALL your data, of course!)
DeleteDisclaimer: this used to work if you had the original OS discs and the install did not force a reformat, if you only have an OEM copy that came with the computer it might not work.
We haven't any original OS disks as it was all preinstalled, BW. I do have all my data backup up so whatever I do I should be Ik with that!
DeleteYour blog still looks mighty fine to me Sue!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on winning the prize...it's always lovely to get surprises through the post and the book sounds great!!
It was a lovely surprise Tanya
Deleteoh you are so welcome *blushes* xxxxxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteThe blog looks perfect on IE. Congratulations on the win, I look forward to hearing of some of these "old wives tales", may be you can try some out on your plot and let us know if they work.
