Concern shifts from wet to cold

Throughout April our concern has been the lack of anything resembling a dry
spell of weather. However, the latter half of the month has been drier and

Sometimes I think overcast days can be the most beautiful - if it's not actively raining you get a completely different colour palette than on a sunny day.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Emma very sunny days are not the best for taking photos.
DeleteAgree with Emma, sometimes the dazzling sunshine can really do a mischief to the lighting. Love these late Winter shots.
ReplyDeleteIt really can, Deborah. I love the shapes of winter trees.
DeleteDitto! I've been known to run inside the house to grab the camera when I saw that a cloud was about to obscure the sun for a few moments :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a case of snapping quickly, Margaret as the rain was waiting to move back in so the sun was nicely obscured.
DeleteLovely set of pictures with your new camera Sue. A couple of personal observations a circular polariser filter fitted to your lens helps with unwanted water reflections and it helps on bright sunny days as well. The little waterfall would be an ideal subject to try setting the camera to shutter priority and select 1/2 to 1 second exposure set the ISO to 100 and if you can hand hold at that speed you will get a lovely result in the water movement you might need to experiment, it works well on dull days,
ReplyDeleteI found your comment in the spam folder, David. Thanks for the tips, I’ve looked up the filter and will probably buy one. I’ll also try out the suggestion the next time that I am photographing running water.
Deleteglad you found the message the bottom picture here would be ideal for the circular polariser just rotate it until the reflections disappear after you have zoomed and focussed.
DeleteLook at this website, Ken Rockwell.com he has a section on your cameras test which details ideal shutter speeds for moving water, he also loves the camera and has some pretty impressive pictures
Thanks for the advice, David. I also read that the polarising filter is good for shooting through glass which I do regularly of garden birds. I'm also following someone called Jay SonyAlphaLab. Lots to learn. Just need some dry weather now and of course the filter to arrive.
DeleteIt looks good in spite of the rain.
ReplyDeleteMaybe oversimplifying, but I've found macro shots do well with some sunshine, wider landscape shots in diffused sunlight or cloud to bring out the contrasting colours.
The advantage was we almost had the once to ourselves, Jessica. The only trouble with sun and macro shots is casting shadows.
DeleteSomething very restful about these photos. Nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks tpals.
DeleteI think we are due for a visit to Harlow Carr soon, when the weather improves.
ReplyDeleteWe had arranged to meet a friend there so went along in spite of the rain. We had a coffee and then the rain stopped so we had a short walk round. It was good having the place to ourselves.
DeleteJust lovely Sue, are those dogwoods I see?xxx
ReplyDeleteThey are, Dina they have lots of dogwoods.
