DeleteOutstanding photograph of the robin. Very cheerful. Why do people in the UK say "Happy Christmas" and people in the US say "Merry Christmas"?

Thank you Jane. More about the robin photos in a later post. We use both greeting in the UK but I guess the Happy Christmas reflects more what I hope for people. I would rather be happy than merry :-)
DeleteFunnily enough, I've never thought of the Merry and Happy like that until a recent conversation with a close friend. She gave exactly the same reason for preferring to use Happy over Merry. For no particular reason, in my recent post I found myself using Happy instead of my usual Merry.
