When we think about Christmas roses this isn't what we expect!
The Hellebore Niger which we call a Christmas rose is neither a rose nor does it bloom at Christmas (well not in out garden anyway). Hellebore Niger often feature on Christmas cards but the title of Christmas rose really belongs to this flower. It's a rose and it was flowering at Christmas and beyond.
This is definitely a true Christmas Rose. Lovely colour.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that the flower hadn't been spoiled, Jo
DeleteWhat a lovely colour! So nice to have this in flower when the sky is so grey! Thanks for sharing and brightening the day :)
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure Anna
DeleteSo what sort of rose is it really? (I mean, do you know its name?)
ReplyDeleteMust admit to planting it years ago before we kept records but I'm pretty sure it's Zephirine Drouhin
DeleteDoes it still have thorns?
DeleteNo thorns Mal so it probably is Zeph

ReplyDeleteIt's certainly made of stern stuff, Janet.
