I got quite a surprise when I opened up my blog the other day! I had created RSS feeds on the sidebar of our blogs to link to posts in each of our blogs.
Each time a new post was published a link appeared with a short description and a thumbnail. Suddenly a large orange square appeared inviting people to advertise. The next day large adverts appeared.
I wasn't impressed but I suppose it is something that you have to expect when using a free rss feed creator.
I didn't want these ads to appear on my blog so there was only one thing that I could do which was to change the rss feed.
Blogger has its own feed widget but this is very basic and just post links, no description or thumbnail. Also it wasn't possible to use this to create a link to our photo portfolio as I can't find the feed URL for this,
Does anyone else use a feed creator that is free to use and doesn't impose unsightly ads everywhere or is there some html coding that I could use to create my own RSS feeds complete with a thumbnail and short clip from the post.
Oh that sounds like a most unwelcome intrusion Sue. Hope that you can get it sorted soon. It might be also worth asking your question in the Blogger help forum. My ongoing problem remains the speed or lack of it when my blog is loading up. Despite intensive research and fiddling I haven't been able to find a remedy yet.
ReplyDeleteYour blog loads fine for me, Anna, When mine was slow I reduced the number of posts visible to 5 and also reduced the size of the original photos being used (not the size on the blog).
DeleteI thought you had an invasion of voles or rats when I read your title. ;)
ReplyDeleteNo suggestions as I keep my blog basic and am not very experienced.
Rats of a different kind tpals :-)
DeleteThat does sound annoying to say the least! I'm no help though since I use Wordpress for my blog. And if you're like me you've probably got better things to do than troubleshoot a blog problem.
ReplyDeleteI guess if I choose to use freebies I shouldn't complain<, Dave but when I started to use it some years ago they didn't use ads. If they were going to use ads at least they could have made sure they used smaller ads that fit. I still would have removed then though.
DeleteWhat a drag. We are still in the pioneering days of the internet and there are plenty of cowboys out there and not so much law!
ReplyDeleteI guess they can do what they like with their utility, Mal
DeleteThank you Sue i can not help with your problem but must be frustrating for you Blessing to Martyn and yourself
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda
DeleteUgh - how annoying! I'm a pretty boring page designer and have only used tools within blogger so far. Hope someone out there has an answer for you.
