I've never grown ferns. I think it's fascinating how they unfurl their fronds though.
ReplyDeleteThey are fascinating, Jo. As well as the unfurling I find it interesting how each part of a frond resembles a whole frond etc. I think it's called a fractal design.
DeleteOh how WONDERFUL....I'm a great fan of ferns, such aged plants!xxxx
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be without them C

Every year I worry that my ferns have not made it through winter and then...bang...they unfurl and look so beautiful again. My favourite, which I am not sure if related to a fern, is the gunnera. It dies back in the winter and is just a clump, then again the fronds unfurl and you end up with the humongous leaves that you can stand under. Amazing plants. XX
ReplyDeleteWe have a couple of gunneras that we sort of bonsai in pots but they still have huge leaves and the most unusual flower spikes!
DeleteA great display, Sue. Much better than mine! Love the bronze-coloured ones.
ReplyDeleteWe have a few more dotted about Mark, But I'm glad that I decided to put some together in one bed.
DeleteThe reddish one will end up green. It's a pity that over the years and lots of moving them about I have lost the labels on most of them
Ooo, what a beautiful fernery, just need a few logs & stumps :)
ReplyDeleteI did consider logs, Liz but then there is very little room once the ferns are fully grown.
