Just a very quick post to explain a new setting that I am trying out.
My list of unwelcome comments is becoming a nuisance and some have actually started to be published which must annoy readers as much as it does me!
As a result I have set my permission the 'comments setting' to Registered Users to try and filter out Anonymous Users which is where the rubbish comments are coming from.
If you are logged into a Google/Wordpress account etc. you should be able to post as usual but if not you will need to choose from a set of options.
I'm hoping that this will allow everyone else to post their very welcome comments without a problem but if you find it causes difficulty then please email me.
If you comment on older posts you will see that comment moderation has been set on posts older than 5 days but once I've read them bonafide comments will be published.
If any comments with links back to bizarre websites are published please don't follow the links.
PS Facebook logins aren't openID but you can use an openID e.g. GMail account to login to Facebook See this link
I've chosen the same option, and it's really filtered out the spam, but some cheeky so and so's pass on their spam with an ID (which I just delete), so you still need to be vigilant.
ReplyDeleteI'm not expecting 100% effective, Jo but it needs to cut down I'm getting masses which end up in my email.
DeleteI'm going to try this too, have just changed the settings, I am so fed up with all the spam. It has increased enormously the last few months! Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly has I had 46 spam messages on Saturday!!!
DeleteHi Sue, That's tons. Wordpress filters mine automatically. I agree it's annoying. Hope your new setting works!
ReplyDeleteAnna B
Blogger filters mine too, Anna but they are all sent to my email account so I can over-ride any that shouldn't be spammed so I have to delete them all from my email and then from the spam filtered folder in Blogger
DeleteBlog-spam is getting ridiculous Sue, sorry you've had to do this but I suspect changing the settings isn't going to affect the majority of your 'real' visitors.
ReplyDeleteIt is Bilbo. I don't want to have to moderate everything and so far I haven't had any anons since changing the setting.
DeleteGood advice Sue. I have had quite a lot of spam comments recently (mainly loan company stuff). It's a real pain in the email.
ReplyDeleteSo far it seems to be working Rooko no anonymous comments for two days. I have lots of loan ones (sign of the times) but some comments could have ended up getting me banned!
DeleteGood luck Sue, hope this sorts it out for you. Those of you on blogger do seem to have real problems with spam, which is such a pain to have to deal with.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be working Janet - I think more came once I had synchronised to Facebook and Twitter.
