Last year I bought lots of tulips, one of which was a variety called Candy Club. Other than the picture on the packet there was no indication of its colouring, so I expected creamy white flowers with tiny pink streaks.
To start with that's just what I got and then the white darkened to a primrose yellow with only thin stripes of white remaining.
Gradually the yellow faded into a more creamy colour and the petals were tinged with pink.
Then the pale pink became a deeper pink with the base of the flower becoming a deeper yellow.
Having looked up the variety on the internet this is exactly how the variety develops.
It's been fascinating to watch especially as it wasn't something that I was expecting to happen but I can't help thinking the packaging undersold the variety.
Another transformation this week is that Ruby had her first 'proper' grooming session, all carried out under social distancing rules. It was a bit like a magical act. A furry bundle went into the pet carrier...
and a sleek puppy came out.
Those tulips are gorgeous! Nice to have the surprise coloring
ReplyDeleteIt was two tulips for the price of one, Jane.
DeleteWow...that tulip is pretty amazing....so much change in just one tiny flower...nature is pretty impressive!!
ReplyDeleteAs for Ruby...gorgeous....how did I miss that?? How old is she and when did she come into your lives!!
Ruby is 18 and a half weeks old. We brought her home just over ten weeks ago I wrote a Meet Ruby post a couple of weeks ago
DeleteSpeaking of transformations...that tulip is wild. What a ride.
ReplyDeleteMz Ruby looks darling. Is she a standard poodle? Will she get tall? She looks like she is all legs right now.
Ruby is a miniature poodle pup, Lisa. She is all legs, they were hidden in all the fur/wool. She should grow to about 15 inches tall.
DeleteSuch an interesting transformation, like having more than one flower for your money. Shame we can't get ourselves down to the groomers! Ruby's looking rather sweet after her visit.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame we can’t be ‘groomed’ Deborah. Ruby trades on looking sweet when she is in trouble which she often is.
DeleteVery stylish pup, indeed. I'm feeling a bit envious of the tulips, mine are all just one color.
ReplyDeleteWe’ve had lots of lovely tulips this year tpals. I just hope that we can get them to flower again next year.
DeleteWhat a beautiful tulip variety, a wonderful surprise for you. Awww, Ruby looks so cute. Archie's groomer hasn't reopened yet. Apparently there's some issue as to whether groomers are covered by their insurance at the moment so she's erring on the side of caution.
ReplyDeleteMobile groomers are allowed to operate, Jo as long as they don’t come into your house, only have one dog with them at a time and follow certain protocols.Ruby should have already had two cuts, as puppies need grooming more often. As poodles don’t shed at all we were really worried how she would cope if the weather was hot. It was a health rather than cosmetic issue.
DeleteThose tulips are amazing! So is our dog. What kind is it?
ReplyDeleteThanks Bonnie. Ruby is a miniature poodle puppy.
ReplyDeleteOh, just loving Ruby! Those tulips aint half bad either!xxx
ReplyDeleteSometimes you think the puppy stage is over too quickly, Dina and then at others wish for a calmer more grown up dog
