Back in February 2018, I posted that I was trying to raise some new clivia plants from seeds that one of my plants had produced. It wasn't that I particularly wanted more clivias, but you know how it is, you see a seed pod and it becomes a challenge. You just have to try growing it.
I successfully germinated three seeds and potted them on. Since then they have resided on a bedroom window sill quietly growing away.
Then last week something rather exciting happened. I noticed that one of the plants had produced a flower.
It wasn't a brilliant specimen by clivia standards but it was A FLOWER, and even a less than perfect example of a clivia flower, is in my eyes a success story.
Downstairs mum is showing how it should be done.
Maybe one day the babies will emulate their parent.
How sweet. The urge to plant a seed is strong indeed.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is tpals
DeleteWOW this is exciting! What a beautiful bloom...all from a seed. What ever you did for this experiment it turned out perfectly in my eyes. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm waiting for my yellow clivia to produce seed, Lisa
DeleteWhat a pretty colour. Is it normal for the bloom to be on so short a stem? It's a beautiful foliage plant too!
ReplyDeleteNo, Deborah the flowers are usually produced of a long stem like mum, although the photo of her doesn't show that too well. see here Also they form a cluster rather than just a couple of flowers, We actually have one by the fireside as a foliage plant. It doesn't get enough light there to flower.
DeleteWhat an experiment Sue! You did good job, now you have clivia babies. I propagated clivia dividing the roots.
ReplyDeleteHappy women's day! I wish you joy and happiness, love and health.
I wish the same to you Nadezda
DeleteExcellent! That's quite the result! It is a lovely flower.xxx
