What a beautiful bird! A male bullfinch I see from your bird ID page. Is that right? Are they very common? (Great photos, too!)
ReplyDeleteYes it is, his mate comes too, Jane. They are fairly common. At the moment he is around a lot as is his mate. They are striking but can be a problem in orchards when the6 strip buds off the trees.

ReplyDeleteYes, Mal the goldfinches swarm on them. The robins have taken to using the feeders too. The sparrows come in even greater numbers than the goldfinches. Then the blackbirds pick up the crumbs from under the feeder.
DeleteI recently discovered the collective noun for goldfinches is a 'charm'. I like that!
