Roses and agapanthus

  1. I have always "lusted" after Agapanthus, but due to our harsh conditions, I'm unable to grow it. It is indeed GORGEOUS stuff. So glad you can have it (and share with me in pictures!)

    1. The agapanthus is growing in a large pot, Sue. In winter we have taken it inside the cold greenhouse. It's mainly to keep it from getting too wet.

  2. Lovely photos. I've always hankered after Agapanthus but doubt they'd do well in the salty winds of the west!

    1. It is a really deep and gorgeous blue, Margaret. In a way the photographs don't do it justice.

  5. I love Agapanthus, Sue and it's pity it isn't hardy. Do you dig it up in autumn?

  6. Lovely agapanthus Sue.
It surprises me how many people consider them difficult. You ought to write a post about how to grow them ( You probably have!)

    1. I must admit I was one of those people too Roger. When we saw this colour at Stillingfleet we just had to have one. It isn't growing in open ground so really there is not much to tell about how we managed to grow it. Maybe once it gets much bigger I will split it and try some in the garden

  8. They are not two plants you would naturally put together. They are beautiful, they do say agapanthus Should be pot bound in order to flower well.

    1. They are only together as they both were looking good enough to photograph, Brian.

  9. Your Agapanthus are a beautiful very vivid blue. Here they have not started blooming yet. I have had blue ones (darker than yours)for several years. Last year I added some white ones. I look forward to see how they do.

    1. The agapanthus is Morning Star, Alain and is actually darker than some of the photo imply. It's the sort of blue the doesn't photograph accurately.

  10. Your agapanthus is a gorgeous blue. Contrary to all advice and wisdom mine are in a regular bed and have been for three years . . . however, I reckon I have pushed my luck quite far enough and this autumn I am going to move them into a pot for safe keeping over winter.

    1. I am looking towards having one planted out when the potted plant is big enough to split.

  12. Nice blooms, Sue. I meant to get out photographing the agapanthus I added to my small greenhouse to break the dominance of sweet pepper pots. Such a beauty of a flower isn't it. Guessing yours is in the ground - do you find it hardy enough with you or do you need to winter protect it?
