Stocks of fresh vegetables were running out. Fortunately, this afternoon the conditions were good enough to venture to the plot and gather in more supplies.
I'm afraid that our winter harvests are producing some rather monotonous photos but if all has gone well that's what happens at this time of year.
With at least half of the vegetables hiding beneath ground level, we never quite know what to expect. So is this one carrot, four carrots or five carrots?
Weighing in at 553g it certainly won't be cast aside as an unacceptable shape.
Once again I am linking to Harvest Monday over at Daphne's Dandelions.
I wouldn't mind a bit of monotony, better than being without much as I am at the moment.
ReplyDeleteKeep thinking next year, Jo
DeleteThat is one crazy looking carrot. It must have been fun to dig that one up.
ReplyDeleteYou never know what shape will emerge Michelle,
DeleteI get the doldrums in the summer here. Lovely harvest. I am always fascinated by what comes out of the ground. Never know!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, I've just written hat very thing in reply to Michelle. It's just so true
DeleteHa ha you could make a whole bowl of soup out of the bottom one!
ReplyDeleteAnd some, Jo!
DeleteI love the carrot. They do get crazy at times. And at least you have harvests now. Even if they tend to be the same. I wish I had a harvest. Though part of me is happy enough to sit inside and drink tea.
ReplyDeleteIt is often a dash and grab visit to the plot, Daphne I'm not a tea drinker so it would have to be coffee for me.
DeleteI think it's bloomin' brilliant that you are still reaping so much! That carrot is brilliant, I would certainly cook it too!!!xxx
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it make you cross, Dina when you think many like this are dumped and then they tell us that we will not be able to produce enough food,
DeleteIt's carrot man! Any carrot shape would be acceptable here, I'm not worried about excess arms and legs. This will be the year for carrots I hope.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should make it a cape CJ
DeleteFabulous carrots!
ReplyDeleteWelcome and thank you akailyard
DeleteYou can't beat a good comedy carrot. It's a good harvest for January. We only have parsnips and leeks. Happy new year.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Sarah - we have leeks too but didn't pull any this week.
DeleteBoy, I must say that I have never seen a carrot like that before...hilarious!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with Daphne - sometimes I wish I could harvest over the winter, other times I'm happy for the break and chance to concentrate on other things.
We do get a break from gardening Margaret - all we so is go to the plot to gather veg - sometimes just once in a fortnight depending on the weather.
DeleteFunny carrot, Sue. It reminds me an octopus. You're lucky to have a harvest in January!
ReplyDeleteIt is Nadezda
DeleteJamie Oliver would be proud of you, producing that seriously "wonky" Carrot!
ReplyDeleteDoes he like wonky carrots, Mark?
DeleteYour carrot looks like ground tumeric.
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean Endah
