Plot 4

Some readers seemed to enjoy the video I put together in an earlier post so I thought that I'd create some more detailed tours of the various sections of our plot. I'll cover each section when it is planted up

Just to give you some idea of where each bit fits, I've created a plan with each plot numbered in the order that we took them on.
I'm starting with plot 4 as this is the area that has mostly permanent planting, it also houses our sitting area, shed and greenhouse and so is the first to fill up.

We took this plot, which had been gardened a few years previously, because we knew that lurking amongst the head high weeds were lots of fruit bushes just awaiting rescue. The present day apple hedge and redcurrants are plants we uncovered.

I can't remember the year we took over the plot but below are some photos from 2003 and 2004 which are the earliest that I can find. I don't think I took as many photos prior to that. Maybe it was pre-digital as far as we were concerned.
Notice above how we were surrounded by overgrown plots.
The planting plan of this area is as follows. You can click on it to open a better view. To read the text easily just hold down the Ctrl on your keyboard and scroll the mouse button.

The bed containing roses at the end of this plot is very overgrown and on our renovation list.

I've managed to keep this film a little shorter - you need just over four and a half minutes to spare to watch it. I must work on my wobbling though.

  1. Your grass paths have such neatly trimmed edges, you put us to shame. Looks like it's going to be a good blueberry year for you, I think we'll do better than I first thought, just so long as the birds don't get to them first. I saw an onion trying to flower there, I've had more onions sending up flower spikes this year than ever before.

    1. We're the same with onions flowering, Jo I snap heads off every plot visit. The grass had just been cut. I keep saying it but the weed control fabric has freed up quite a lot of time so we can keep things tidier than we used to.

  2. You have a really big plot. I'm so jealous of your blueberries. The one I planted this year died. I guess it doesn't like our soil.

  4. You could always graze some goats on the overgrown plots, some nice goats milk and no weeds simple. Lol.

    1. Fortunately now most of the plots next to us are taken, plotman - just one more needs a gardener. The council wouldn't allow us to keep goats and if we had animals there I would worry about them and need to bring them home with me when I wasn't at the plot :)

  5. What a super helpful blog found via David's Welcome Allotment. We have some veg beds and this year we hope to do them justice. Just had some swiss chard our first proper crop in an omelette. Tasted very like spinach, it was yum.
