Throughout April our concern has been the lack of anything resembling a dry

I shall enjoy watching this when it screens but I'm not tempted to participate - the pressure of getting it right would be too much! Would that my veg patch ever looked like the promotional photo!! (I wish!)
ReplyDeleteSomething like the same reason we never entered the allotment competition, Caro. The entrants didn't pick anything until after judging! on
DeleteIt's ever so slightly tempting, I must admit. But I can't imagine it would be possible to do that and keep my allotment and garden and blog and home and children. Would it..?
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't say how big a patch of land you will be given or where it is CJ. I wonder whether they are having difficulty recruiting as this is the second time I have been approached.
DeleteIf only..
ReplyDelete:) Jessica
DeleteIt's a big dream to be a complete gardener. I will never be the champion. My climate is not favorable for carrot, dahlia and sweet pea :-(
ReplyDeleteA bit of a long journey for you to take part too, Endah
DeleteI think participating in such a programme would be close to my personal idea of hell, but I will love watching it!!
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine all the retakes, Janet
DeleteI wish! I don't look too glamorous when I'm gardening, either. I shall look out for the programme when aired.
ReplyDeleteI don;t look glamorous at the best of times L
DeleteNo way Jose - too much pressure - be interesting to watch though
ReplyDeleteIt will, Elaine
DeleteI'm definitely not that person. I shall enjoy watching it though.
ReplyDeleteI had my moment of fame a few years ago, Jo and that was enough
DeleteIt does seem tempting but then I read the 'cultivate a perfect carrot' bit...what??? The reason I love to grow my own so much is that everything tastes great...not because it looks like something out of a supermarket....what would they class as perfection??? As for making award winning anything.,..this is a matter of taste and over the years I have pretty much thrown all recipes out the window and cook to my families tastes. I think I would end up having rows with the producers..lol. I will watch it when it's aired th0oough purely so I can look out for some of their takes on the things I didn't like about it in the first place!!
ReplyDeleteThe perfect carrot to me is just about the taste and lack of bugs, Tanya!
DeleteI would love to be brave enough to enter but I'm not, I can't wait to watch it though.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Jo
DeleteI'm looking forward to the programme.
ReplyDeleteSue do tell, what was your moment of fame?
A few years ago when we had manure problems - I was on Gardeners' World and our local Politics Show, Victoria.as well as various local radio spots, For GW we were four hours recording what ended up as a few minutes it was edited down to. Goodness knows how long your would record for a whole programme!!!
DeleteToo many differing opinions on "whats the best" I'm afraid, got to agree with you its good tasting veggies that count and how you achieve them with minimal wastage.
ReplyDeleteI've watched quite a few 'competition' programmes, Rooko and the one I think is best rarely seems to win.
DeleteI can just picture myself being puce with embarrassment for all long as I lasted (about one episode, I should think).
ReplyDeleteI'n bot sure what the format would be maybe you would be there for the long hail, Helen so permanently puce..
DeleteI don't think I could ever participate in something like this. I takes lot of nerves and self control to listen somebody judging your not perfect carrots and not smacking them in the face. I actually hate false perfection..especially in gardening. I love my half eaten, crocked, two legged carrots..and I'm sure they taste better than the perfect market ones :)
ReplyDeleteThat would make good television, Leanan
DeleteOur garden was on a gardening program years ago. What was fascinating was to see how they "cheated". For instance there were 2 large pots they liked and moved all the time so they were in just about every frame. I asked won't the viewers notice? The interviewer answered you might have 20 of those pots - they don't know you just have two! As in your case Sue, they filmed from 7 AM to 5 PM for about 20 minutes on the program. Also, they paid me one dollar. There was a legal requirement that I be paid.
ReplyDeleteI think a gardener would notice mobile pots, Alain. I didn't get ant payment but didn't mind as it was to make people aware of a problem, We kept having to do retakes because a plane flew over or my hair blew in front of my face etc.
DeleteThanks for flagging this up, I shall look forward to watching. But no way could I ever take part. Even if I had the skills, which I don't, I could not stand the process of recording and having to comply with someone else's view of 'perfect'. I agree, for me it is all about the taste, lack of bugs, and of course that it is so good for us:)
ReplyDeleteMaybe if they fail to get contestants it will never air sweffling
DeleteSeriously think you should go for it!! And I did read your previous comments. I'll live through you, lol.xxx
ReplyDeleteNo way, Snowbird :)
DeleteNot my cup of tea, I wonder who they will get to judge this? Hope they know what they are talking about and don't include some 'celebrities' who just happen to enjoy eating vegetables.
ReplyDeleteThat will be interesting Rick
DeleteWow! Nice show! I wish we have such programme here!
ReplyDeleteI'll watch of they manage to get any contestants, Malar
DeleteBelatedly catching up.
ReplyDeleteSuch sensible people commenting. So not everyone is taken in by the media. They follow their own agenda, and anyone who thinks otherwise is in for a rude awakening. Did you see that "Allotment Wars" programme?
I did see Allotment Wars - must admit although it was OTT we did have some characters on site who were on the way there!
