How do they do this?

Aren't spiders fascinating creatures? Even if you hate them you must admit they are amazing.

This photo isn't upside down. The spider - which I think was a zebra spider - was crawling on the underside of the table that we use for drinks on the plot.
Zebra spiders are jumping spiders and stalk their prey rather than building a web and lying in wait. Sorry about the poor quality image but the spider refused to stay still and it was quite dark under the table.

If you're not an arachnaphobe I have some garden spider photos and a video of one building its web on my website here

Spam
Whilst we're on the subject of stalkers. I seem to be getting a lot of annoying spam in my comments at the moment - most of which ends up in my spam but now some comments seem to be getting through. I wonder why these people don't realise that posting spam only aggravates people and doesn't make them likely to click on any links. I'm still resisting switching on comments moderation on all comments (and I don't want to have to go back to the dreadful word verification that many visitors hate) but I have switched on moderation for comment on posts over 5 days old so if you place a comment on an older post please bear with me - your comment (if you are not a spammer) will be published after I have read it.

By the way has anyone any experience of using Disqus  to replace the standard Blogger comments?

  1. I'm afraid I'm not a lover of spiders, they frighten me to death, I don't know why. I get so much spam that I have to moderate the comments. At least there's an alternative to word verification.

    1. I was afraid of spiders as a child but I think it was more because it was expected of me - the more I learned the more fascinating I found them.

I've disabled comments from the post that seemed to be attracting most spam. Actually nearly all the spam has been picked up by Blogger so has never been published - it's just a nuisance as I get it all forwarded to my email box and have to sift through and delete it all.

  2. I love spiders...having said that my Gecko can run around on the ceiling too!!

Hope the spam comments stop...they are so annoying which is why I have always left mine to be moderated...just find it easier in the long run.

Never heard of that 'disqus' so I can't give you any help there...sorry.

    1. Actually on my blog at the moment very few spam comments get through so it works in a similar way to moderating. It means 'real' comments are automatically accepted whereas anything that Blogger thinks is spam is sent to me email for moderation. It's that bit that is the nuisance.

    2. So does you gecko have sort of suckers in it's feet?

    3. Yeah she has kind of fine sticky hairs on her feet and also on the tip of her tail...the kids think it tickles when she walks on them. Does make her very hard to locate if I leave the doors not snecked properly though...luckily this has only happened the once!!

    4. Always look behind the sofa cushions as I heard of a pet lizard that met its end by hiding behind one.

  3. I am getting absolutely heaps of spam at the moment too. Annoying isn't? Especially given how random most of it seems. Intelligent spam I can cope with, crap about Ugg boots I definitely object to. Nice spider , Mr 2 is very keen on spiders so my appreciation for them is growing, albeit slowly.

    1. Some of my spam is worse than Ugg boots believe me! Surely spammers must realise that no-one in their right mind will follow their links!

Read up about them - they are really fascinating creatures. Mr 2 would love my spider video

  4. Oh dear, not nice. Luckily I haven't had any spam, isn't it supposed to be a kind of tinned ham loved by Americans? Lol, sorry couldn't resist that one.
As for spiders, I don't like them either. The big dark brown ones that come in the house in autumn terrify me, but I'm oddly fine with the garden spiders with the big bum. I still wouldn't play with them though.

    1. Special Processed American Meat (although Wikipedia thinks its short for spiced ham - don't know where the spiced comes from)- I remember SPAM fritters at school :) Isn't it strange that internet nuisance has taken the same name. Apparently Internet spam stands for Stupid, Pointless Annoying Message.

I don't think garden spiders would want to play with you eother Liz - although maybe it could teach you lace making;)

  5. I would have loved to have seen a photo of you taking a photo of the moving spider under the table!

I was lying in a hammock in the summer, watching ants travelling along a fence upside down. While I was in awe of them, I was far too lazy to reach for the camera. I now feel suitably ashamed!

    1. I bet they would have made a difficult subject GS. My camera is sort of an extra appendage - I feel quite naked without it!

Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment - it is great to hear from you and know that there are people out there actually reading what I write! Come back soon.
(By the way any comments just to promote a commercial site, or any comments not directly linked to the theme of my blog, will be deleted)
I am getting quite a lot of spam. It is not published and is just deleted. I have stopped sifting through it and just delete any that ends up in my spam folder in one go so I am sorry if one of your messages is deleted accidentally.
Comments to posts over five days old are all moderated.
