    What a beautiful bird! A male bullfinch I see from your bird ID page. Is that right? Are they very common? (Great photos, too!)

      Yes it is, his mate comes too, Jane. They are fairly common. At the moment he is around a lot as is his mate. They are striking but can be a problem in orchards when the6 strip buds off the trees.

    Beautiful Bullfinch. Oh, everyone loves sunflower hearts, including the squirrel which made off with an entire sunflower head from my borders!

      We have squirrels too, Deborah which is why we hang our feeders on very long hooks.

      Yes, Mal the goldfinches swarm on them. The robins have taken to using the feeders too. The sparrows come in even greater numbers than the goldfinches. Then the blackbirds pick up the crumbs from under the feeder.

      I recently discovered the collective noun for goldfinches is a 'charm'. I like that!
