    Wonderful pictures! There is something about empty road in the pictures which evokes such nostalgic longing in my heart.

      Just over an hour's drive to this area David - then we are close to the North Yorkshire Moors, Derbyshire, Bronte country, very close to Last of the Summer wine area and the coast too. Spolied for choice really. It isn't really grim up North.

      The train is heading up to Tebay David - somewhere around Lowgill - just really from the roadside on Old Scotch Road.

    I so miss the English countryside Sue, the landscape here in Caithness is very rugged, barren and mainly consists of fir trees. I love it here but I really miss hedgerows, hills, deciduous trees and country lanes.

      It's a photogenic area, Snowbird - we have two watercolours that we bought just after we were married from an artist who based lots of her work in that area. This year we actually foung one of the sites she used and it had changed very little in over 30 years.

      I'm sure you will CJ. Must admit until fairly recently we spent holidays abroad but have been staying in the UK for a few years - There are some beautiful places that we never knew existed in all parts of the country

      The area is noted for its dry stone walls Alain although some in my photos are mortared, The fields are edged by the walls given a patchwork quilt effect.

      And a nice meal at Wensleydale Creamery, Bilbo and improvement on the farm on top of the hill near you. Pity they didn't have their vegetable tagine on the menu as it is delicious.
