I don't like tomato soup though I do use them as a base for a minestrone. I do like a nice spicy tomato & chilli pasta sauce. So jealous of your yellow raspberries in your previous post.
ReplyDeleteJust picked another punnet of yellow raspberries today awpol. They spoil easily in wind and rain but the ones today look unmarked.
DeleteI hope you have better success than me. Today I picked the first tomatoes which were added to a box of salad for lunch. They were less than brilliant - thick skins, little flavour and that horrible grainy texture inside, all signs of being grown too cold.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't tasted any from the garden greenhouse, BW yet but the plot greenhouse tomatoes are good
DeleteI am so pleased...I know you were concerned. Soup yes..with dill especially.
ReplyDeleteNot basil then Bren?
DeleteYour patience certainly is paying off. I obviously don't have as much patience as you, as you know I picked all mine yesterday even though they were green. I did eat the first ripe ones yesterday though and they were delicious, definitely worth the wait. Now if only the rest would ripen for me.
ReplyDeleteWe did have the advantage of having tomatoes ripening in the plot greenhouse though, Jo.
DeleteI made a lovely tomato soup yesterday. It had only two ingredients: tomatoes and chicken stock. Served it with some home-made Basil oil drizzled into it. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat else do you really need, Mark?
DeleteLove some - does it fly well?
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can set up a pipeline Liz so we can share both ways.
DeleteMy outdoor toms have sprung into action at last but I have had to remove the trusses as the strong winds were playing havoc with the plants - if they all ripen I will have to sell them on E-Bay at Tomatoes-R-Us.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't grown outdoor tomatoes for a year or so now, Elaine due to blight problems. We had considered having a go again at outdoor planting this year but decided against it.
DeleteEven my greenhouse toms are taking their time to ripen. I've already made my supplies of green tomato chutney and curried chutney - just need some ripe ones now for tomato and chilli jam!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for you Jules.
DeleteI am being patient...and yet still nothing seems to be happening...except that I am looking up more green tomato recipes....I really hope I get a better tomato harvest next year.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why yours are taking longer than ours, Tanya - you being further south should be enjoying a warmer climate :)
DeleteYour tomatoes look great! Enjoy them all!!
