What a stunning display. I don't have them in my garden, though, and I bet you know why! Slug fodder, sad to say.
ReplyDeleteThe slug problem is why we grow them in pots, Deborah
DeleteNice looking leaves. I've never even seen a hosta except in pictures!
ReplyDeleteI guess your climate is too hot for them, Jane.
DeleteI've never tried hostas in containers, but you seem to do very well that way.
ReplyDeleteIt’s really the only way for us tpals as on open ground they are attacked by slugs.
DeleteLovely. I got rid of all my hostas, there were just more holes than leaf with all the slug damage, even though I grew them in containers.
ReplyDeleteOurs are actually on the wall around our pond, Jo and I make sure that the leaves don’t touch any nearby plants to isolate then a bit. They do still suffer from some nibbling but no enough to make them look a total mess.
DeleteThose look so fresh and beautiful. My early hosta got burned by frost so its won't be beautiful for awhile, but my other hostas are just now emerging
ReplyDeleteHi SmartAlex - here’s hoping your hosts bounce back after getting frost bite.
DeleteDo you grow hostas in tabs Sue?
ReplyDeleteMine are little now.
Yes I do grow them in containers, Nadezda. In the open ground they’d have no chance.
DeleteMy hostas were frosted not once but twice this spring, a very unusual occurrence. I had to cut them to the ground. They have since rebounded.
ReplyDeleteI really like your collection. They look great. I have a few in pots. Mainly the mini hostas are in pots and Curly Fries, and a Regal something in pots in front of the screen house. I do have trouble with slugs even in pots. I have to watch for them. I have read about using chicken scratch around hostas. Supposedly it is too sharp and bothers the slugs so they stay away. If I ever remember to pick up some I will let you know if it works for me.
That's so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh that's a most attractive array of hostas Sue.
ReplyDeleteThey are looking so very sleek!xxx
