Yikes, that top one is a beast of a thing.
ReplyDeleteThat’s a ladybird chrysalis, CJ I think it’s a Harlequin ladybird.
DeleteThat first one had me perplexed. It's a pupating ladybird larva isn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt is, Mal - a Harlequin I think.
DeleteI had a really nasty reaction to those ants that bit me several times, its a bugslife for sure
ReplyDeleteI have had the same experience several times, David. They seem to make a habit of running up my trousers legs biting on the way.
DeleteNot all insects are pleasant but they do have their place in the scheme of things. Although there are plenty that I would rather not have in my little slice of the world!
ReplyDeleteI certainly wish that the ants would stay away, Michelle. We never used it have ants in our gardens but now they seem to be everywhere,
DeleteDon't love the bad ones but I suppose the good guys need something to eat, right?
ReplyDeleteThat’s true, Margaret but nothing seems to eat those dastardly ants.
DeleteGreat photos, Sue - although the ants make my skin prickle! Ugh!
ReplyDeleteCertainly not my favourite insect, Caro
DeleteLoved these pics, especially the ant, seeing those eggs all at different stages is fascinating. Did you dig a nest up?xxx
ReplyDeleteThere were three nests in one of our growing bags, Dina but we are forever digging up ants nests. The things are everywhere.

DeleteThe good, the bad and the ugly! I'm itching just looking at the ants Sue. I've noticed that colonies like to inhabit the corners of my raised beds.
ReplyDeleteAnts will one day take over the world, Anna.
DeleteThose ants look rather too menacing close up.
ReplyDeleteThey are menacing, Jessica
DeleteI love that top photo - looks like a sea amenome! Ants, they really are taking over the world and I think they began with our compost bin!
ReplyDeleteJust imagine if the ants started to grow in size, Belinda - Antmegeddon
DeleteThe creatures you show, Sue are pretty except there 'rusty' ants. I hate them.
