At the moment the tulips are one of the stars of the garden. Teemed with some late flowering narcissi they are putting on a worthy show.

I like the varieties you've chosen, there's so many to pick from that it can be quite overwhelming making a final decision. The tulips I planted in containers last year haven't flowered yet but the ones in the ground have been blooming for quite a while.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the ones in the container are layer flowering, Jo
DeleteThat tulip could be "Jan Seignette", colours are very similar.
ReplyDeleteAs for the tulips pushing out the other plants, yeah you don't see it on tv. You also don't see how potted Canna lily kills every other plant in the pot(also destroys the pot), that's what we get for watching shows where they plant already grown flowers :D
That name doesn't sound familiar, Leanan. Maybe I just crammed too many bulbs in.
DeleteI've never been a huge fan of tulips, but suddenly am warming to them in the last few months, so maybe this Autumn I'll be sourcing some new bulbs. My few remaining ones are so old they are all yellow instead of red. Lovely display and most encouraging for me to grow them again.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't plant tulips much either, Deborah but have developed a liking to them
DeleteMy Tulips are all "unknowns", bought in collections. Until recently I was not a Tulip fan, but I may have been converted...
ReplyDeleteWe are the same, Mark, wanting a particular colour to add interest before the perennials they seemed the natural choice,
DeleteI love tulips and you have a gorgeous display of them.
ReplyDeleteI have one like your un named variety, I think it starts with an A ...
Thanks Patsy
DeleteAbu Hassan is the one I was trying to think of.
ReplyDeleteT%hat doesn't ring any bells Patsy
DeleteEvery fall, I talk myself out of planting bulbs. And then spring comes, and WOW--I have serious envy of all the beautiful blooms everyone ELSE has on their blog.
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess I'm just lucky you share some photos. It's beautiful, Sue!!
Maybe this year. Sue :-)
DeleteThe tulips are indeed the stars of the show Sue. You've a lovely selection. Can't help with your ID though. I planted some of those Baby Moon Narcissus too and they are very slow with me too. I think I spotted a couple of flower buds appearing yesterday. At this rate they'll bloom mid summer!
ReplyDeleteSo maybe the babies will arrive eventually, Angie.
DeleteYes, gotta love (or not!) how things always work out perfectly on tv shows :) Beautiful tulips - mine are up but yet to flower & I can already see that some are budless, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteThe tulips looked even better today as they opened even more in the sunshine,
DeleteLike yourself and others above, I too am warming to the return of tulips this year and have Queen of the Night scattered all around. They are getting close to flowering. You've got a great variety there, Sue! I've yet to master leaving them in borders for another year. Looks like you've had success there. I'm thinking Princess Irene for your orange tulip?
ReplyDeleteThe tulips were only planted last autumn, Shirley so they have only come through one very mild winter. I am resigned to the fact that I may have to plant them annually. The name Princess Irene doesn't ring a bell and I would expect it to as it was my mum's name and also is my middle name. I'm beginning to think that these tlips didn't have a label as the other ones that I have kept the labels for the other ones that I bought at the same time.
DeleteLaughing at the thuggish bulbs...of course that never happens on TV! Loved your tulips, and that Acer enhancing them....lots of lovely combinations here.xxx
ReplyDeleteI really like aces, Dina. It took us quite a few years to decide where we could have one.
DeleteSuch a pretty Tulips all around! They grow wild there?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Malar.
