Beautiful pictures, Sue. Love garden birds, but wish they'd realise they are supposed to sit and pose a while too, in exchange for their food!
ReplyDeleteI set the camera to burst, Deborah and even then many escape.
DeleteHurrah!
ReplyDeleteShort lived Jessica as we haven't seen them since.
DeleteYay.. and very beautiful they look too.. Loving the Blue Tit's fluffy hair-do :o)
ReplyDeleteSomething must have excited him/her, Julie
DeleteWhat stunning birds. We have nothing like that here. What a treat !
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous, Sue
DeleteDitto what Sue said - incredibly cute, especially the 2nd one.
ReplyDeleteThe top two are of a goldfinch and the other bird is a blue tit which is much smaller, Margaret.
DeleteGreat shots!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Aga
DeleteHow lovely, thank you very much for such cheering photos:)
ReplyDeleteGlad that you liked them sweffling
DeleteGreat photos, Sue. I haven't seen Goldfinches in my garden at all this Winter. Presumably they have not migrated, due to the mild weather?
ReplyDeleteThey wouldn't migrate to another country. Mark but may have headed out into a more natural landscape. One worry though was that the weather wasn't too good at nesting time last year.
DeleteBeautiful birds and your shots are fantastic !!
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Thank you Ela
DeleteOddly enough the ones I've had visiting for weeks now seem to have disappeared. Have you stole them Sue ;) only joking - nice to see them return to your garden.
ReplyDeleteIf we did they didn't stay long, Angie
DeleteFantastic news, Sue! Beautiful, clear images of them and the cheeky Blue tit too :-)
ReplyDeleteIt was, Shirley but we only saw a couple and they have disappeared again.
DeleteWe are lucky to get Goldfinches all year round visiting the feeders, they like the sunflower hearts. They are my favorite garden visitor,
ReplyDeleteWe usually do, Brian but last summer they disappeared. We didn't even have the usual flock of juveniles. They usually live out sunflower hearts too.
DeleteI did the bird count this last weekend. This year there is couple of red-breasted nuthatch that is always around. It is funny to watch them go down tree trunks head first.
ReplyDeleteWe see nuthatches in the parks, Alain but ours don't have red breasts.
DeleteWhat fun to see something besides chickens!
ReplyDeleteThey are great to watch tpals,
DeleteBeautiful birds, I have hopes that the woodpeckers are back this year, have heard them tapping at the end of the garden
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for your woodpeckers, Lorraine. They very occasionally visit our garden.
Deleteso cute little birds! What are they called?
ReplyDeleteThe top two are a goldfinch and the bottom two are a blue tit, Malar
DeleteGlad the goldfinches are back, they're such lovely birds to watch with their bickering at the feeders, it's like watching a soap opera. They've started using my new feeder now, they took a while to get used to it though. Your photos are really lovely and that last one is so cute. Which camera did you take these with? They're so clear.
ReplyDeleteThe goldfinches have't been again since, Jo :-( I use a Panasonic DMC FZ72. It has a through glass setting so that it doesn't focus on marks on the window as it sets the focus to ignore things close to the camera. The birds do come fairly close to the window to feed but I often crop the image. I have the setting at 16 megapixels which takes huge images (4600 px wide) and so have to resize them after downloading. I also use a burst so if the bird moves I have a better chance of capturing a decent image. I can also tweak the lighting and sharpen a little if necessary in my software.
DeleteAs you know, we bought this camera for Eleanor for Christmas 2014 but I've just treated myself to one. She takes some great photos with her's and I remember asking you about it when we were buying it and being impressed with the photos you take. I haven't had a chance to really get out there with my new purchase but I'm looking forward to getting to grips with it. It's really the zoom I've bought it for, I have my DSLR but the equivalent lens to the FZ72 would cost a fortune so I thought it made sense to buy the camera instead, plus I got a great deal on it.
DeleteCharming birds and beautifully captured.
