Brilliant news Sue! Great images and video too - I love to see the patting down of the ground especially. The reds are especially entertaining to watch - being a bit lighter than the greys they do bounce around more and appear more mischievous :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's my favourite too, Shirley. They are quick often it;s point, clock and hope when trying to photograph them,
DeleteGreat - I remember living near Formby as a child back in the late 1940s and seeing these little fellows - sadly we have only greys here in Somerset!
ReplyDeleteOnly greys here on Ossett too Marigold.
DeleteAh, the reds of my childhood days! We have only greys here, unsurprisingly, so it's lovely to see your photos, Sue. Some lovely captures there!
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous little creatures aren't they Caro?
DeleteThat's very cute little squirrel!
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are cute, Malar.
DeleteIt's lovely to see our native squirrels again, I remember them from my childhood but they're a rarity these days. We were over in the same area a couple of weeks ago, though not in Formby, there's a couple of posts on my other blog.
ReplyDeleteI'll take a look at your other blog, Jo
DeleteOh how special Sue. Formby is not far from us so we must get there one of these days. The only time I've seen a red squirrel was in France and it all happened too quickly for me to get to my camera :( Did you wait long to see this little creature?
ReplyDeleteWe saw red squirrels in Vichy park in France and they were so tame that they even jumped on your knee.
DeleteDidn't have to wait at all, Anna there were lots of them running about.
DeletePS Fabulous video too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks ,Anna that was Martyn's handiwork.
DeleteHow lovely, we only have grey ones here. I still like them but native squirrels would be better.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if they started to spread throughout the UK again, Jo
DeleteWonderful photos and video... we only get greys here too.. That last photo, how cute it that :o)
ReplyDeleteIt looks to be posing doesn't it, Julie?
DeleteVery atmospheric photos, Sue. Jane says she used to visit that place with her parents when she was a child.
ReplyDeleteThe only downside was the people frightening the squirrels by holding loud conversation, Mark
DeleteLucky you Sue, I would love to see a red, but have only managed the grey ! Fab photos ...
ReplyDeleteThere were lots running about, Jane so easy to spot.
DeleteI have had one fleeting glimpse of one in Scotland. They're beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful, Jessics.
DeleteWhat wonderful photos and video, it's marvelous to finally see their numbers building up again, we have them back in the garden now and this week I found a drey and spotted three youngsters.
ReplyDeleteThey are such interesting and entertaining little creatures aren't they, I do hope they recover their numbers and give the greys a run for their money.xxx
How great that they are spreading into your garden, Dina
DeleteGreat photos! Its so nice to see red squirrels, and all those pine cones too!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is, Kelli. Are there many in your area?
ReplyDeleteThey really are just so cute I have only ever seen them in captivity - lovely to see them roaming free.
ReplyDeleteA real treat, Elaine
DeleteIts always nice to see pictures of the British reds, rather than the imported greys.
ReplyDeleteIt is, Rooko but I can't dislike the greys, It isn't their fault as they didn't ask to be brought here - it's just an example of humans interfering with nature and causing an imbalance.,
DeleteLovely photos and video Sue, I so much prefer the red squirrels! I have occasionally seen red squirrels here in London, in the large park where I live, but they are few and far between.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise that there were any reds in London Helene.
DeleteThe red squirrels are very popular in Poland. My first grey one I sowin America years ago. I didn't realise that the red ones live in UK at all.
ReplyDeleteThe reds are our native squirrel, Aga, The greys were brought in from America and spread and out competed the reds so the greys now dominate and the red only hang on in some areas.
