There seem to be three possible explanations
The white feathers are a result of partial or albinism or leucism both cause pigment not to be spread correctly through the feathers (we see blackbirds with white patches sometimes due to this type of thing). I've also read that during moults sometimes the base of fathers can be exposed and create white patches. I think it could be one of the former explanations.Any bird can be affected by this and I think it is genetic so maybe it can also be passed on to offspring.

If anyone knows better I would welcome suggestions.Sue Garretthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164518448098182276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33294007.post-33895795212106669452014-01-30T04:03:48.332+00:002014-01-30T04:03:48.332+00:00Look so interesting birds.Look so interesting birds.Endah Murniyatihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16175364514530314348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33294007.post-28325578918616325862014-01-30T00:24:13.718+00:002014-01-30T00:24:13.718+00:00That's awesome bird watch photos! ;)That's awesome bird watch photos! ;)Malarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18421349464010347804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33294007.post-76749626631805186832014-01-29T23:54:04.053+00:002014-01-29T23:54:04.053+00:00Great photos. The few times I've seen Sparrowha...Great photos. The few times I've seen Sparrowhawks in my garden is just after they've finished off some prey.Feathers everywhere.David Shinnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01349275095909121230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33294007.post-9662430776241685742014-01-29T22:17:20.499+00:002014-01-29T22:17:20.499+00:00Wow, lovely photos.
