2017 Seed & Plant List
The blossom has been wonderful this spring, hopefully it will lead to a bumper harvest.
And bug free too, Brian. The codling moth traps have been hung
Glorious. Apple blossom is my favourite. The one that's pink inside as well is amazing. I have one that's deep raspberry on the outside, but it's still pale when it opens (Ribston Pippin). Is your pink one from a red apple? I'm wondering if it follows.
It is a red apple, CJ. The flesh should be red too. If it fruits this year it will be a first.
Isn't it beautiful? Yours is just ahead of mine. I think it's going to be a bumper year for apples, pears and plums!xxx
Some of our varieties are still in bud, Dina.
I love apple blossoms, they remind me of strawberry and cream ice-cream :)
I see what you mean, Dewberry,
Beautiful. Does that darker pink blossom (the one which goes with the slightly reddish leaf) belong to a crab apple, or an apple apple? Do you happen to recall the variety?
It's an apple Alexis called Baya Marissa. Thanks for commenting
I've been lurking about your blog for years, being impressed almost daily by your handsome veg :-). Thanks for the variety name. We have a crab/apple cross in Australia called Huonville crab, with a not-quite-so-red flesh; edible, but a bit more astringent than I like.
If we achieve any fruit I'll report back, Alexis. I'm always intrigued to find out who is reading my blog quietly. Stats and followers list suggest that there are quite a lot of people that I never have any contact with so it was good to hear from you.
It's Baya Marisa - just noticed that it is just one s!
How lovely! Of the three trees we planted 3 years ago, only one has bloomed so far. Fingers crossed that another one will join in the fun this year :)
I always think fruit trees are just as attractive as ornamentals and wonder why more people don't see the double benefit and plant them in gardens Good luck with your trees/
Isn't apple blossom just so pretty ~ and with promises of fruit to follow! You are well ahead of us, I think a good week looking at my tree this morning.
Maybe yours is just a later variety, Deborah
Beautiful blossom, Sue! I can't wait to see the fruits too.
