Making contact

An update for those of you interested in my continuing eye saga. For those of you who are not - look away now.

I have finally received my refunds - the one for my proposed surgery was received last weekend. It has taken two months for some reason. Maybe they had such a large number of refunds to make or were they just hanging on to my money for as long as they could? In the end it took just a phone call for them to ask for a card number to refund the payment to - as simple as that so why the delay?

The chain that supplied my thick lensed glasses were much more accommodating they exchanged the offending glasses for a full refund and compensated me for having to pay for a new eye test. We met with a relief manager and had a long conversation during which we felt that she was really listening to my feedback and wanted to try and ensure that other people received a better service. To be fair I was impressed by their response especially as I had worn the glasses four or five months.

I now have some new contact lenses which I can manage to wear for between 8 and 13 hours during a day. This depends on how dry my eyes become.
The vision and fit are good so it's just a case of getting on top of the dry eye problem. This is less problematic when outdoors as I don't think having central heating on helps. According to my optician if the conditions will dry washing it will dry  eyes. I have to go back for a check in three months time.

I have also bought some funky glasses to wear with my lenses for reading  and computer work.

Martyn got some quite funky new glasses too.

Fingers crossed now that my dry eye problem will keep improving.

  1. So glad that things are going much better with your eyes now. I wear my rigid gas permeable lenses for around twelve hours a day. It can be longer, but I usually switch to glasses in the evening. I need a new pair of glasses, mine are quite scratched and blurry now. Optician next week! Love your new glasses, they're really cool. I hope your eyes are less dry now as well. I find it worse in the winter usually, although the summer pollen can make them gritty.

    1. When we were out in the fresh air for the day I managed 13 hours but I usually have the lenses in between 8 and 9 hours. I put glasses on for a while in the morning until I have used the eye bag and then if I need to change to glasses again in the evening. The lenses are in a material that is supposed to be more comfortable than my old lenses. The dry eyes are improving but it may take a few months for the capsules to take full effect.

  2. Glad to hear things are sorting themselves out for the better. I get my eyes tested on Tuesday and am not looking forward to it at all after the last test and all the problems.
Love those frames. I'm hoping I can get ones like that, possibly in a funky purple or green!

    1. I tried funky purple too but green suited me better. My optician said that lots of people told him that they'd rather go to the dentist than the optician.

  3. Places are always much keener and quicker to take money off you than to give it back! Glad things are improving for you...

    1. You're right they wanted the deposit before anything was done. Them they said that the refund would tale 28 days and then a further 28 days as they said the system broke down!

  4. Sorry to read that you have had problems with your eyes. It's always worrying when things are not working out how you want for the peepers. At the beginning of last year I was told I had glaucoma only to be told I haven't when I was referred to the hospital. A couple of months of real worry as sight is the one sense that I could not live without. Take care.

    1. My eye pressure is high so I have to use drops to control it to prevent glaucoma, Chel. Apparently in the past they didn't treat this until you lost sight in one eye!

    1. A bit of a way to go with the dry eyes, Margaret. Some days are better than others but at least things are a lot more positive.

  7. The blue frame is so cute. I have never though to use contact lens, I think it needs lots of care.

    1. The sort I have need care, Endah but you can get some that you throw away after a day's wear. For me they give much better vision.

  8. Hooray--so glad this is working well for you.
And remember--drink LOTS of water---that is the underlying reason for a lot of the problems. I had it several years back, and though I despise drinking water all the time---it did releave the problem. Put it in a beautiful glass and set it on the counter and aim to drink it every two hours (the full glass!).

  9. I have started drinking more water Sue but I haven't managed a glass every two hours. How big is the glass?

    1. I have an 8 oz glass--that would be 1/4 liter for you--and I try to get one of those in every 2 hours the whole day through. At first, it is quite difficult--but in time you will find it ok. Just keep it in plain sight !
I sure hope you find this helps.

  10. One of those things that happens as we 'mature', is that the body becomes less efficient at sensing when we need a drink of water. This, along with the centrally heated home/workplace which causes constant water loss through the skin (even when we don't feel at all sweaty), means regular drinks are needed to keep fully hydrated. Sipping water from a handy sports bottle can be easier to remember, if less refined, than going for a glass of water.

    1. I think my dryness is from a poor tear quality and it's the oil that is lacking S and D but I am trying to drink more water. WE are also trying to have decaf drinks as the caffeine can be drying too.

  11. This all sounds very positive, both causes and solutions are often multi-faceted:) Dry eyes sound most uncomfortable and I hope they continue to respond to all your efforts, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
