Will they won't they?

My last fruit post was a bit depressing. I'd describe this one as hopeful! Much of the fruit blossom has now dropped although the medlar in the garden is just at the beginning of its flowering cycle!
The quince and apple blossom has dropped but it is too early to tell whether or not fruit has set.
Then there is the fruit that has set fruitlets but will these and the tree part company - like many did last year - and fail to crop?
So will they won't they - we'll just have to wait and see!

  1. All your fruitlets look really lovely...I'm sure you'll have many fruits from them.
We won't have apples this year (maybe 2 or 3 on every tree) last year we had too dry summer so this year they didn't bloom. :(

    1. Our crab apple tree - John Downie didn't bloom for some reason, Leanan!

  2. It's called the waiting game. My cherry tree has such few fruits that it won't be worth netting it even if they do manage to reach maturity, so I suppose the blackbirds will get them before I do. Oh well, there's always next year.

    1. Neither the cherry planted on the plot nor the one in a tub in the garden will have much fruit, Jo if any! What variety is yours?

  3. Fingers crossed Sue! I have apples starting to form and my fig tree is going to be groaning with the weight of fruit this year by the looks of it. I am worried though as I have just had to stick the heating back on again indoors. When will we ever get a decent summer?! Chel x

  4. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for my apples this year. I have lots of fruitlets, but like you say, will they stay around or drop off again? Fingers crossed, hey!

  5. I love the blowsy blossom in the first picture - quince or medlar? Your trees have been more successful than mine a lot of mine just haven't been pollinated - no plums or damsons either - again!

    1. They are medlars, Elaine. Our plums and gages had their rest year lat year so we are hoping they will perform this year

  6. Oh I can't wait to eat some fresh fruits from my garden! There are many 'fresh' fruits on the market but they're mostly forced, so they're taste isn't as sweet as those from our gardens. So I think, I'll wait a month or so, the fruits are worth it.

  8. The Medlar flowers look like old-fashioned roses! My pear tree has lots of fruitlets, but I'm expecting every day to see them fall off. I'm making very sure that the tree is well watered so that it is not under stress at this critical time.

    1. I noticed today that there are more cherries set than I thought, Snowbird so we'd better have the netting on standby.

  10. I think it is going to be a bumper year for fruit! Perhaps the long, cold Winter has helped form the fruiting buds.
