What colour path?

The improvement in weather conditions has meant we have spent more time at the plot and been busily tidying, planting and strimming the grass paths which seem to have developed the personality trait of an Olympic sprinter. Funnily though whereas our paths quickly sport a yellow carpet of buttercups ...
... those of a plot neighbour are clothed in daisies.
I'm guessing that this is because he mows his grass more closely and that this suits daisies more than it does buttercups.

Then there is the perfect weed free path of another neighbour.
No weeds dare to grow here.

Despite the extra work - must admit this is mainly extra work for Martyn -  we like our grass paths, I can't imagine sitting weeding on soil or gravel or bark chippings.
The wildlife likes grass too. I am often sitting quietly weeding when I spot movement out of my eye corner and see a frog or toad crawling across the path - one time even over my foot!

  1. Hubby mowed our grass at home last week and said he'd got it on to the shortest cut, it's covered in daisies now so I think you're right about them liking closely mowed grass.

    1. We tend not to use the shortest cut, Jo. The lawn isn't flat enough and areas would be scalped.

  2. This looks really good but I can't imagine having grass paths in my garden. Sooner or later I would slip on it and probably kill myself :D

    1. The things with the allotment is that we don;t tend to go when it is so wet, Leanan. If we do we have wellies on.

  3. The paths do look lovley. One side of my allotment has a grass path but the other is chippings which were down when I took over the plot. I think this is far more work as with the grass you can just mow over it but with the chippings I am forever weeding it out!!

The bee plot will have plenty of grass though...hopefully with some daisies and buttercups in. My lawns at home though are pure grass...I am a bit maniacal about the lawns at home and although I like the daisies and buttercups I hate all the other stuff that comes with it, problem is, treat one 'weed' and you treat them all!!

    1. That is true about chippings Tanya, I never thought about weeding but also the chippings rot down and need topping up don't they?

  4. It is interesting to view that each plot designed so different from each other.

  5. The grass paths are lovely and how amazing to have toads creeping past!!!!!

We have daisies and buttercups on our lawn, sooo.......maybe we cut it short at times and leave it long at others!

I don't like things to be too tidy and must say that a daisy and buttercup lifts my spirits.xxxx

The grass paths look good especially after they have been mowed. I've just cut about 50% of mine today. I have a mixture of Creeping buttercup (nuisance), daises and clover which seems to be taking over this year. Disturbed 2 frogs in the long grass.

    1. We have some areas that we leave long as a wild life haven, Rooko.

  7. That has made me so determined to get my veggie area fully under control Sue, I've been neglecting it of late in preference for the garden.
As for frogs - I'm scared poopless of them. I seriously can't go near them, even the teeny tiny grass frogs.
Preferring the daisy look it has to be said.

    1. MY father-in-law hated them too. I don't know what he would have thought to us carrying them round the garden to a place of safety when the ciltivator or strimmer is out!

  8. These beds look so perfect! Mine are choked with weeds :) The more it rains - the bigger they grow.
