Serenade or warning

Lately every time we have been at the plot this fella has been there too.
He's been sitting at the top of a conifer in the middle of our plot and behind the shed. He sits there for ages belting out a variety of tunes. In the distance other blackbirds send a response to his trills.

He can't be feeding young as he is at his post far too long so I wonder whether he has a mate nearby incubating eggs and is warning off any intruders or is he late in advertising for a mate and ever hopeful?

  1. Neither of the above. He's just looking for a good opportunity to swoop down and scratch up some of your delicate seedlings!

    1. WE do have cherries Leanan which we net. They also will do anything to try and get to the redcurrants which also have to be netted.

    1. No it's a male blackbird, Malar - much smaller tan a crow and a lovely bird with a beautiful song. Mark has trouble with them routling around in the raised beds and scattering the compost and soil etc.
