Things aren't all bad this year.

Just a quick post with a photo of yesterday's harvest boxes.
Taking the photo made me realise that things aren't all bad this season.
  • The tomatoes may be late but they're now ripening and we haven't been affected by blight.
  • We've had plenty of runner beans and courgettes.
  • The raspberries just keep on coming - blackberries too.
  • We may only have a few plums but it's better than none at all.
  • The apples may be small and blemished but they still knock spots off the supermarket ones in the flavour stakes.
  • We have even ended up with a few plums - not many but again they are delicious.
  • Our first pea plants failed but we have managed a small harvest from later plants.
  • We have cabbages and cauliflowers ready to use.
  • We have lovely carrots apprecaited all the more after last year's failure.
  • After a long wait we have even pulled some spring onions.
We keep a full list of things harvested each month here at the top of the page is a drop down menu where harvests for each month are recorded but maybe I should just stop moaning about this year's weather and be thankful for what we have managed to gather in.

    2. That sounds as though there are no more on the canes - what I mean is that we have eaten the ones in the photo :)

  3. Well it looks like things are really turning round for you now Sue. The thing is we can all have our little grumbles but in the end we do get something for it...and when less plentiful maybe the harvest is appreciated just that little bit more. VERY jealous of those tomatoes!!

  9. Fantastic! Looks just beautiful! What a bounty. It is so rewarding to look at a haul like that, and know that YOU grew it. Tastes tons better, too. :) Enjoy and savour every morsel. But I'm sure you do that anyway.

  10. Yummy - and so healthy with that rainbow of colour. Not too shabby at all, and close to miraculous given the year it has been!

    1. Isn't it a pity that harvesting is just so short lived Martin?
