And the winner is ...

As predicted I lost the race to have a flower on my amaryllis first.

My sister's plant now displays two fully flowering stalks with another bud waiting in the wings. She is finding it difficult to keep her top heavy plant from falling over but it looks spectacular - as they always do.

My buds are now growing quickly - it maybe wasn't a good idea to watch 'The Day of the Triffids' though

  2. I read the book at school but the version that was on over Christmas was a rewrite where triffids were being farmed for their oil to combat the depletion of fossil fuel. A triffid liberationist released them. Unfortunately most couldn't avoid them as they had been struck blind by some sort of northern lights type event. Not a good film to watch when you have a houseful of plants. I was hoping that they didn't get ideas!

  3. It is interesting how these Amaryllis have a mind of their own. They bloom when they want to.
I am not familiar with Day of the TRiffids. I am going to have to look that one up.

  4. Okay, now I am thoroughly intrigued and must read the book after googling. Sounds horrorific, my kind of reading.
    Thanks
